Below is an overview of the questions we often receive. Is your question or answer not here? If so, please do not hesitate to contact us.

There are 4 different cooling technologies; passive, thermoelectric, absorption and compressor. Below, we try to quickly guide you through the differences.

1: Passive:
A passive cooling system requires no power supply. Use cooling elements or ice cubes to keep contents at temperature. This cooling method is most influenced by weather conditions.

2: Thermoelectric:
A thermoelectric cooling system features a Peltier element which heats or cools through a fan and heat exchanger. It operates on 12V or via an adapter on 230V. A thermoelectric device consumes a relatively large amount of power and makes noise because the internal fan continuously moves air for cooling.
Cooling capacity is limited to a maximum of 20 degrees below ambient temperature.

Note that on hot summer days, the ambient temperature in an enclosed space such as a car or tent can reach 40 or 50 degrees, making the unit very limited in cooling.

3: Absorption:
An absorption cooling system is a pressure-filled ammonia gas system in which heat is extracted from the cooling compartment by heating. An absorption system is soundless. Because the system must be heated, it consumes a relatively large amount of power and its cooling capacity is limited to a maximum of 25 degrees below ambient temperature.

Note that on hot summer days, the ambient temperature in an enclosed space such as a car or tent can reach 40 or 50 degrees, making the unit very limited in cooling.

4: Compressor:
A compressor is the most widely used and efficient cooling system. Independent of the ambient temperature, the unit can cool and freeze. There are two different compressor systems; traditional 230V compressors and modern 12/24V compressors.

Traditional 230V compressor system
This cooling system is actually intended for domestic use. Because the compressor operates only on 230V, it can only be used on a fixed power connection and is relatively energy inefficient due to high power consumption, the compressor has only an on or off position. A 230V compressor system should always stabilize for 24 hours after transportation before commissioning.

12/24V compressor system
This cooling system uses a 12/24V variable-speed compressor. The compressor is built for mobile use and, thanks to intelligent electronics, the speed and power consumption are adjusted automatically. The compressor can tilt to a 30-degree angle during operation for 30 seconds. With a 230V inverter, the device can be used on any fixed power outlet.

Depending on your needs, choosing a cooler is very different. You can use the table below as a guideline:

< 20 liters 1-2 persons
20 - 30 liters 2-3 persons
30 - 40 liters 3-4 persons
40 - 50 liters 4-5 people
> 50 liters 5 people or more

Our units are extra quiet due to the use of eco refrigerant. Want to enjoy an optimal night's sleep? Use the eco night mode to reduce the compressor speed to a minimum.

You can cool for up to 24 hours on one full Powerpack battery. Depending on the contents of your cooler, the set temperature and outside temperature may vary.

The Powerpack battery automatically recharges when the cooler is reconnected to a fixed power outlet. A separate charger is also available as an accessory to charge the Powerpack separately from the cooler.

The Powerpack battery charging time varies between 4 to 8 hours, depending on the state of the battery, charging status and available input power.

We recommend letting the device stand for at least 6 hours before using it for the first time.

The device can be exposed to an angle of up to 30 degrees for a period of 30 seconds. A larger angle, or longer duration could potentially cause damage to the device.

Restart the app and your refrigerator or cooler and try again. A Hyckes device can only be remotely controlled by one paired device for security reasons.
If the device is still not findable, refer to the device manual to restore the factory settings. The device is now detectable again.
Note that this will erase all settings on the device.

Battery protection mode not set properly. Make sure it is always in the "low" position to make optimal use of the Powerpack battery. This can be done through the device's settings, or easily through the Hyckes app.

Check that the power cable is properly connected to the device and the other end is connected to a power outlet. When using a Powerpack battery, verify that the battery is turned on by holding down the Powerpack's power button until a beep sounds.

This is a normal phenomenon caused by the flow of the refrigerant. The sound will decrease after some time in use.

This is a normal occurrence, usually caused by moving the unit or when the unit has not been used for an extended period of time. The sound will decrease after some time in use.

Refer to the appliance manual to troubleshoot the fault in question. If this does not solve the problem, contact a dealer or Hyckes via our contact page.
